1Apple River Canyon State Park

Located in the hilly northwest corner of Illinois, Apple River Canyon State Park offers incredible scenery including limestone, deep ravines, bluffs, waterways, springs, streams, and wildlife. Indeed, this scenic canyon area was formed by the action of the winding waters of the Apple River.

Located south of Galena, this 85-acre reserve features the most scenic views of the Mississippi River and its backwater sloughs. 3Mississippi Palisades State Park

The Mississippi Palisades State Park is located a little farther out of Galena near the confluence of the Mississippi and Apple rivers. The 2,500-acre State Park is rich in Native American history with interesting rock formations as well as its beautiful trails.
